Appreciate Sam Cooke

22 Apr

I always kinda hated R&B. The beats sucked, the singers had whiny voices and all the songs sounded the same. That was until I discovered the amazing Sam Cooke. Old R&B had great bands that could put on amazing live shows. Charismatic and incredibly talented singers that recorded their songs in single takes. The first song is live and you can really get a feel for Sam Cooke working the crowd and just having fun performing.

It is entirely possible that the current state of R&B can be traced to the prostitute that shot Sam Cooke in a motel room bringing an early end to an otherwise promising career. I will save that conspiracy theory for another time.
