FOSTER THE PEOPLE keeps banging out the hits that nobody seems to be listening to.

I’ve been pimping Foster the People to everybody I meet. Not because I owe them anything, but because they make infectiously good music that I think should blanket the airwaves. As it stands, PUMPED UP KICKS is all over KROQ and I’m cool with that.  It beats listening to more Mumford and Sons (c’mon that album came out in 2009 and Little Lion Man is on rotation like it’s a new single).

There’s no album yet, but with the way these guys are pumping out tracks I have to imagine it’s nearly complete. This new track is called “CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT” and I dont know why but all I can’t think of is “December, 1963 (Oh what a night)” by the Four Seasons. Craaaazy.

Mumford & Sons (Bookshop Sessions)

Hey you guys. I know what you’re going to say. I’m sorry. We’ve been away far too long. But we’re back. Yuppie Dance Party…is back. Start the slow clap. NOW!

Mumford & Sons – “Little Lion Man”

At this point i’m convinced everybody and their mother has heard Mumford & Sons’ debut record “Sigh No More.” That’s cool, thanks for the invite to the party, assholes. Whatever I meant to be late.

If you’re like me, and you tend to disappear into dark spaces in your apartment for months at a time playing Civilization writing badass-punch-you-in-the-ovaries lyrics, then you might be scratching your ass wondering who the hell this band is. Well fear not, I’ve got you covered:

BOOM! CLICK HERE

I kid, I grabbed the info for you already: M&S is an English Folk Rock band made up of four wonderfully talented musicians who have crafted a beautiful debut record. “Sigh No More” is a well constructed folk record and I think this record will be an instant classic on many listeners shelves for years to come. There is some grit to the music, but for the most part it is very easy listening. Who do they sound like? Well I’d say take early Avett Brothers and Kings of Leon, unplug the instruments and shovel on the Fleet Foxes.

Mumford & Sons – “The Cave”

El Guincho – “Bombay” NSFW!

El Guincho – “Bombay”

This is the opening track from El Guincho’s new album Pop Negro. If you like this track I promise you’ll love the rest of the album. The music really fits in to that washed out summer sound that Beach House and Best coast have made us really comfortable with. But, if you like the music go get the album, this isn’t even the best song, I just dig the music video…

Cee-lo “F**K You”

We’ve been a little absent from our sworn oath to keep the world full of awesome music in our corner of the interwebs. I apologize. To kick off what I hope to be somewhat of a resurgence in content…I give you Cee-Lo. Bob your head you haters.

Teriyaki Boyz ft. Kanye – I Still Love H.E.R.

Sometimes, when YDP listens to good new stuff, it reminds us of good old stuff – and some stuff in between.  With Kanye recently leaking the super-hot track “Power” from his upcoming LP “Good Ass Job,” it got me looking at his old stuff too.  This cut, from the mixtape “Graduated,” is a play on another equally awesome and even older track by Common (I smell bonus video!)  Not to mention the fact that the heavy lifting is done by a Japanese B-Boy group, the Teriyaki Boyz, all within a really meta music video riffing on YouTube.

So here’s Kanye and the Teriyaki Boyz – I Still Love H.E.R.

And the bonus, Common – I Used to Love H.E.R.

OK Go – End Love

OK Go is genius.  I think we all learned that when they busted out the treadmills and showed us that while low and budget, they were really high on creativity.  Well, they’ve done it again and lit up the interwebs with this piece of art, a video for their single “End Love.”

What makes this extra sexy (along with their signature single-shot format), is the fact that it was edited with varying shutter speeds.  You get everything from a stop-motion camera look, to the super slo-mo that only a high-speed camera can give you.  Except instead of seeing it used to watch plants grow, or a frog snatch a fly out of the air, we get to see a bunch of guys in pastel sweatsuits cavorting through a park.

Cavorting…yea, I know what you’re thinking.  Just watch the video and enjoy seeing 4 days of shooting compressed to 4 minutes of musical whimsy.  You’ll enjoy it.

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM – “All I want”

If This is Happening is truly the swan song of James Murphy’s LCD Soundsystem project…bravo sir. A truly amazing album. This isn’t an introduction to a new decade music, but a nostalgic gaze upon the great musical influences in James Murphy’s life. Eno, Bowie, Byrne, Bush Tetras, Liquid Liquid etc etc etc.

Anyway the song “All I want” is James’ homage to Brian Eno (think Heroes with Bowie). It’s a 7 minute long track that hits from the beginning and barely builds through the piece. I liked it. Hopefully you will too.
